Last night President Trump gave a live White House address that was billed as an important update in his unauthorized war in Iran.
He delivered a highlight reel of his favorite social media posts, at once claiming victory, saying that a “deal” was imminent, that victory would still take some time, that in any event the US was in other wars much longer, and deriding our putative allies.
He seemed to be OK with forcing the US to leave a war he started with less to show than we had going in.
As one of the obvious responses to US and Israeli attacks, Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which up to 30% of the world’s oil flows as well as other critical materials like fertilizer.
In his speech, Trump said other countries “should take the lead in protecting the oil they so desperately depend on” because “We don’t need it.”
