Votes for Women

Old, terrible arguments, it seems, never die; they simply wait for new keynote speakers.

In early June, Turning Point USA’s Women’s Leadership Summit in San Antonio gave a keynote platform to tradwife influencer Savanna Stone, who called for an end to women’s right to vote.

She is proposing a one household, one ballot system in which the husband casts the vote. Husband and wife are one flesh, she says, so he votes for both.

Not everyone at TPUSA agreed – but many did. One woman at the summit told a reporter she would be glad to hand over her vote, because her husband would represent her well.

Back in 1912, Oregon printed its case against women voting in their official election pamphlet, saying quote “the household, not the individual, is the unit of the State, and the vast majority of women are represented by household suffrage.”

That is essentially Stone’s proposal, printed 114 years ago, as a part of the organizing movements against the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution, which settled the matter in 1920.

Stone says society has decayed ever since.
